African American Male Feminist Theory is a relatively new concept that is rapidly growing. Alexander Crummell, advocate of black feminism, declared: “For, humble and benighted as she is, the black Southern woman is one of the queens of womanhood. If there is any other woman on this earth who is superior to her in native qualities, I do not know where she can be found.” Before I discuss the importance, relevance, and substance of what it means to be not just a successful male feminist but a universally accepted male feminist, I will lay the foundation of what a feminist is from the ground up. In this article I will construct an analysis of African American male feminist thought using literary pieces such as "The Rights of Women" by Fredrick Douglass, "The Black Woman of the South: Her Neglects Her Needs" by Alexander Crummell, and "Madam Poems" by Langston Hughes . ” along with some other works to support my answer. Explore the theory of the ancient and modern feminist as well as the changes that occurred that created the black feminist or the black womanizer and led to the male feminist. References to Greek organizations will also be discussed , to historical court cases and powerful black women who are relevant to today's society, who contribute to the idea of what it means to be an African-American male feminist from the past to the present.
