The Iraq-Iran War began in 1980 and lasted eight years (3). The invasion of Kuwait began on August 2, 1990. There are reasons and consequences for this invasion which I will discuss in this essay. In 1980 Kuwait, fearing Persian dominance in the Gulf area, had no choice but to financially support Iraq. and act as a lifeline for the Iraqi army (3). Kuwait sent medical supplies and food to wounded Iraqi soldiers during these eight years (3). At the end of the Persian-Iraqi War, Iraq managed to keep its country and pride safe, but suffered greatly both financially and humanly (2). Iraq had a heavy debt and owed nearly $37 billion to the Gulf countries in 1990 due to assistance provided to Iraq during the Persian-Iraqi War (2). Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein asked the Gulf countries, particularly the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, to abrogate the debt, believing that the loans should be seen as a return of the favor to save the Gulf region from Iranian expansionism ( 2). The Iraqi ruler's requests were futile as his requests were rejected by the Gulf leaders (2). This resolution led Saddam to threaten Kuwait (2). Damn on August 2, 1990, while all the Kuwaiti citizens were sleeping, he entered Kuwait and conquered it with one hundred thousand Iraqi soldiers (2). It took only a few hours for Iraqi forces to completely invade Kuwait (2). Troops began to camp in every part of Kuwait (3). The United States of America asked Iraq several times to leave Kuwait, but this led to nothing (1). There are reasons that led to this terrible action. Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein said that surplus oil production was one of the reasons that made me conquer Kuwait, which...... middle of paper......vasion (4). This operation was under the command of General H. Norman Schwarzkopf (4). Thirty-four nations agreed to ally with Kuwait in this operation and provide its full assistance (1). The United States waged a massive air war against Iraqi forces to completely annihilate them (4). He also ordered the tanks to proceed towards the enemy camp and force them to surrender (4). Iraqi forces sensed the danger they were in and began firing Scud missiles at Israel and Saudi Arabia in an attempt to end the coalition (4). Alliance troops entered Kuwait together with American troops and cleared the streets of Kuwait of invaders (4). On February 26, 1991, Kuwait was liberated by the Iraqi invasion (4). The Kuwaiti people were very happy and waving Kuwaiti flags as coalition troops advanced among them. That moment was unforgettable for all who witnessed it.
