12 Angry Men When placed in a group with different personalities, you must find a way to work and communicate effectively as a team; of course sometimes you will find yourself stuck due to some barriers like lack of communication between members. However, group members must find the ability to work together as a team. In the movie “12 Angry Men,” we see a group of jurors who must decide whether the defendant committed the crime or is presumed innocent during a capital murder trial. As an audience, we witness how difficult it was for the jury to deliberate on a verdict and reach a true consensus due to the different roles of personality and negotiation strategies. Specifically, I found six jurors who I believed had an important role in the trial who established informal roles. Some characters played more than one specific role in the film, which includes the following informal roles: Initiator-contributor, information-seeker, opinion-seeker, information-giver, clarifier-elaborator, coordinator, facilitator, butcher, blocker, controller-fighter, and cynical. Question 1: In the film we see eleven jurors convinced that the boy is guilty of murder, with the exception of juror number eight. The architect had three important informal roles throughout the film: initiator-contributor, information seeker, and information giver. The Initiator-Contributor role is shown because he does not believe that the boy is guilty or innocent of the murder. However, he wants to consider both possibilities to decide whether he is guilty. Therefore, juror number eight wanted the rest of the jury to convince him that the boy was guilty of murder. In one part of the film, juror eight tried to put the rest of the jury... in the middle of the paper... so he raises a point about the knife and changes his vote to not guilty. However, by staying silent, he only showed the fear of going against the majority of the group to prevent conflicts from arising. As for Juror One, he uses the "eye for an eye" bargaining method. He was collaborating with both parties, but at a certain point he got into an argument with juror three whys. He was cooperative with those who he believed were collaborating with him. Throughout the film, Juror 8 uses various leadership styles at the beginning. There are many different ways a group can communicate, especially depending on the situation, location, and issue. A group can get serious in minutes and can cause tension, as demonstrated in "12 Angry Men". As shown in the film, discussions and bonds can unintentionally influence the entire group process to reach an agreement
