Animal Farm Research PaperAccording to dictionary.com, rule - (verb) - to control or direct; exercise power, authority or dominating influence over; govern. All people have experienced a ruler in their lives. Some rulers are fair, kind, and have a goal of making the area they control as good as possible for everyone who lives there. Other rulers don't have the same idea. They are deceiving, and the actions they take ultimately harm all the people in the area they govern. Joseph Stalin was one of the deceitful rulers of the Soviet Union. He worked until many people died and those who disagreed with him were sent to labor camps. This also happens in the story Animal Farm. There has been a revolution on the farm and the pig, Napoleon, takes control. Using threats and harsh punishments, he becomes a dictator, just like Stalin. In the novel Animal Farm, George Orwell uses political satires related to Stalin's rule in Russia and his inhumane ways of controlling the country. Animal Farm was a metaphor for the Russian Revolution. The farm animals overthrew the farmer who treated them unfairly and began their own rule. As time went on the pigs became rulers, and the main pig in charge was Napoleon. Napoleon began to have the other animals on the farm do all the work while he relaxed and gave orders to the others. He trained dogs to punish those who did not respect the rules of the farm, the main punishment being death. All the animals were under strict guidelines and had lost their freedom in an attempt to regain it. This applies to the Russian government almost identically. When Lenin, a communist leader, died, he pitted Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky against each other for power. S......middle of paper......they made me the windmill, it wasn't destroyed. Both Napoleon and Stalin had a plan to make the place they controlled better, but they didn't have to do the work, the people they ruled had to do it. The plans ultimately helped the companies, but it took more dangerous work than it was worth. Stalin wanted his country to be completely devoted to him, in the same way that Napoleon wanted the farm to belong to him. The actions taken to achieve this goal were cruel and uncivilized. Workers working in dangerous conditions, almost to the point of death, will not get your country very far. George Orwell directly links the windmill, executions, and dogs to events that occurred during the Stalin era. Stalin was a deceitful ruler, just like Napoleon. George Orwell's Animal Farm is a political satire that criticizes the inhumane way Stalin ruled the Soviet Union.
