Two families, both similar in dignity, / In beautiful Verona, where we set our scene, / From the ancient rupture of rancor to the new mutiny, / Where civil blood creates unclean civilian hands (Prologue, 1-4). reminiscent of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. As in this example, dignity does not influence or end the feud between two families. In the article titled "Families of feud victims cry out", published in the Turkish Daily News on April 9, 2008, there are two families who have an ongoing feud. The Ikilik family protected another family who were enemies of the other family with whom Ikilik had a dispute. In my further research, I also found out that the Ikilik family kidnapped a girl from the other family. After this event the Ikilik family moved to Mersin from Diyarbakır but this bloody feud drove them away. Men from the other family killed five members of the Ikilik family. Also, this article contains some reflections from other family members, so it is very effective. As stated by the family, the feuds are not resolved with a death and most of the victims of these revenges are the teenagers of the families. In my response I will include the meaning and evaluation of the article, as well as the connection to the themes of Romeo and Juliet. This article does not address a new problem but contains groundbreaking information that makes people think and revisit this topic. This event between families happened in 2008, it's actually not old because feuds can continue for decades with new generations of families. “People think that their and the next generation's honor and power will be eroded in society if they do not continue the feud and this incident is an example of that,” (“Families of victims of feud cry out,” 1) said Nilu . ..... half of the paper ...... is common in both Romeo and Juliet and the article. In both there is a family feud that has a vague beginning and the feud in the article started 15 years ago but in the book Montague and Capulet have a family feud more than that. In my opinion, the biggest similarity is that in both stories people die due to senseless fights and families start thinking wisely after losing their relatives. As mentioned in the article on family disputes “The biggest victims are young people”. (“The families of the victims of the feud cry out”, 1) This also applies to Romeo and Juliet. In cases of family disagreement, young people cannot say a word to judge, so the feud influences their future life and choices, as in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Family feuds cause loss and rifts in families and as Michael J. Fox, a movie star said: “Family is not a big deal. That's all.”
