Topic > Food Security in Developed and Developing Countries

A huge problem known as food shortages will emerge in 2020, which in turn will affect food security (Metro, 2011). Food security defined as “All those who have sufficient access to food for a healthy diet and do not efficiently have anxiety about where their next meal will come from.” (Global Food Security A, ND). Over the last decade, the food crisis has become a real problem facing the world. In fact, the world population is expected to increase by 15% by 2050 (Global Food Security A, ND). This will negatively affect food safety. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast food security in the developed and developing world. The essay is organized as follows; Developed and developing countries will be assessed, focusing respectively on three main factors that impact food security. We will also provide specific examples of the similarities and differences between the developed and developing world. A developed country, such as the United States, has a high modern income. It is a country that has a high level of income. Being a less developed country or in other words a developing country, like Ethiopia in Africa, these nations have many problems, for example, poor agriculture, housing problems, food shortage, and water problems. These countries have a low level of income which may feel the impact of food security more than developed countries (Africa College, 2010). One of the factors affecting food security is climate change. Climate change leads to water scarcity in developed and developing countries. According to United Nations forecasts, in 2050 the population will have to feed another 2.5 billion people with less water for agriculture, which will be a major challenge for the United Nations (Africa Collage, 2010). ...ce in a Resource-Constrained World', available at: www.oxfam.org/grow[Accessed 18 July 2011]Teng, P and MEEscaler, (2010) 'Food (In)Security in Urban Populations '.
