The reason is that it was a globally recognized organisation, with a high profile and a strong iconic brand. Given the size of the organization, it was decided that there are many strategic options available to McDonalds. Brief Introduction to McDonaldsMcDonalds was founded in 1937 and operated by two brothers Dick and Mac McDonald in California. They produced a limited menu, focused on just a few items – burgers, fries and drinks – which allowed them to focus on quality at every stage. McDonald's has more than 35,000 restaurants worldwide, serving approximately 70 million customers in more than 100 countries. There are around 1,200 restaurants in the UK, of which 600 are franchises. There are around 85,000 people employed by McDonalds in the UK and over 1 million worldwide. On average, McDonalds serves more than 3.8 million customers per day in the UK (Mcdonalds.com, 2014). Report Objectives The business environment is constantly changing, impacting largely on organizations large and small. Organizations like McDonald's need to develop and improve new and existing strategies to enable them to expand into new markets and implement strategies to help them grow further.
