The scrotum is a temperature control system for the testicles. The scrotum should be a few degrees cooler than the body. It works by contracting the muscle to bring the testicles closer to the body to make them warmer. If the scrotum becomes too hot, the muscle relaxes and allows the testicles to move down to cool the temperature. The prostate is a gland that narrows the urethra in two places. When the male uses the bathroom to urinate, the prostate narrows the urethra via the spermatic cord. This allows the bladder to eliminate urine from the body. During sexual intercourse the prostate narrows the urethra from the bladder allowing sperm to travel through the urethra safely through the penis. The penis consists of the root, shaft and glands. The root is the part that connects to the wall of the abdomen (NA, 2014, par. 2). The rod is the cylindrical end that protrudes from the abdomen and connects to the head or glands. The glands are also known as the head of the penis and are made up of nerve endings. The penis also consists of a loose layer of skin known as the foreskin which provides additional protection to the glans. The foreskin can be removed as a precaution to limit cancer, and is called a
