Corporal punishment is a disciplinary method in which an adult administering it inflicts pain on a student (usually using a paddle) in response to a student's offensive behavior. Nowadays, rules have been created about how many "slaps" can be inflicted, by whom and with what instrument. It is still used in many US schools as a disciplinary method against disobedient or rebellious students. Although corporal punishment is no longer tolerated in the military, prisons, or mental institutions, according to the U.S. Department of Education, 21 states still allow corporal punishment in whole or in part. Each year, more than 223,190 students are subjected to this particular form of punishment in public schools, and a disproportionate number are minority students, male students, and students with disabilities. Research has also shown a correlation between the use of corporal punishment and increases in school dropout, dropout rates, violence, and vandalism. Principal Sid Leonard of Toledo, Ohio, states his feelings against corporal punishment: "The same ones kept coming back for more. It didn't work. Hitting the kids didn't seem to improve their behavior. In fact, it seemed to strengthen their feelings. behaviors I was trying to eliminate." Supporters of corporal punishment see it as a quick and effective procedure as opposed to a time-consuming suspension. Father Philip Berrigan, a teacher at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, expresses how corporal punishment served him as a teacher: "Sometimes we would send a student into the principal's office to wallow, and I saw a wonderful clearing of the air with a simple slap on the bottom. offending student realized without resorting to guilt…… half of the paper……n, while only 36% of the states who rowed scored above average , While 11 The percentage of non-paddling states scored below the ACT national average, 64% of non-paddling states scored below average. It is humiliating that local authorities allow this act of paddling to continue despite this correlation between testing and paddling If they were to withhold funding from states where corporal punishment is legal, local authorities might be more likely to pass appropriate laws. The federal government will refuse funding to these states, so local authorities will pass appropriate laws. (MP) Corporal punishment in. schools are cruel and the remaining American states that practice corporal punishment should eliminate it. Violence in the classroom is inhumane, mentally and physically.
