Soldiers are often considered robots, meaning they have no real concern for the battle they are fighting. This is not true, especially in the case of the war on terrorism. If you asked a soldier what he thought about the war in Afghanistan, he would immediately tell you that it is a necessary war to keep the United States safe from terrorists. Unfortunately, Americans don't think the same way about soldiers or their families. Most Americans believe that war is a waste of American time, money, and resources. This thought process is not only wrong, but completely unfair to serving troops. The war in Afghanistan cannot be won by fighting or losing blood, but the war can and will be won with the American occupation of Afghanistan. Jihad is often considered a holy war, but the Afghan jihad is the terrorist group responsible for the attacks that continue to happen in Afghanistan. The war in Afghanistan has a defined military strategy which is followed by the troops. This proves that the belief that no one is responsible for the military is false. The Army has a defined objective for Afghanistan. The aim of the war is to stop the violence and spread of Jihad in Afghanistan (Bacevich). The spread of jihadism would be a direct problem for American citizens. Many Americans don't see this as a problem, when in reality; could be a serious threat to American security. If jihad continues to spread, there could be a potential increase in jihad in the United States. This is why it is necessary to prevent the spread of jihadism. The military strategy in Afghanistan was outlined for Obama by General Stanley McChrystal.
