Human beings are hominids, primates present on earth for 10 million years. Modern Homosapiens (Humans) have existed for almost 200,000 years and have been continually evolving since their appearance. Evolution not only involves physical appearance but also mental capacity and psyche, thus leading to greater social diversity, defined by many as "culture". Even the most basic primates show strong indications of cultural behavior. With growing intelligence, our early ancestors adopted tools to make their tasks easier. Whether it was a sharp tool made of wood or a fragment of stone, humans were able to adopt new methods of solving problems. As the use of tools became more complex, the skill required to wield them increased. Humans have developed an appreciation for creating objects and art. From the earliest cave paintings of our great ancestors to the high-end designer electronics that are intrinsic to our daily lives; we have formed personal opinions about the aesthetic quality of all types of artifacts. Around 1820, humans' ability to create had a resurgence. The Industrial Revolution hinted at what would become the most rapid development of technological progress in human history. Larger tools became available, and the ability to quickly produce items with different aesthetics would soon become commonplace. Traditionally Creative created items with the purpose of looking good or expressing an idea or emotion. With the advent of industrialization, people began to invent and create objects that had a practical function. Engineers were problem solvers and did not necessarily come from creative backgrounds, leaving their creations commonly appearing purely functional. Today art and... half paper... (Microsoft). In popular culture, people born digital natives will probably still remember the first time they tried to draw with a mouse, much to their dismay at the inaccuracy. Interactive games would also start to become more advanced and attract the attention of both young people and adults, increasing the appeal of using your PC. Better hardware allowed for color displays that appealed to children's learning tendencies [Hobart 1999]. The expansion of computers from the commercial to the private sector was important as it required simplifying the user experience. When the need arises to perform complex tasks, the capabilities are there. In essence, the personal computer can be as advanced as the user requires it to be. The software environment is an extension of a user's life, both personal and professional, especially for specialized interests and jobs.
