Topic > Negative Effects of Racial Discrimination - 1693

America is the country where people immigrate to live their dreams. The “American Dream” is something everyone believes they can achieve, but is that really the case? America is one of the most developed and industrialized countries in the world, but we are by no means perfect. America was founded on opportunity, which is why many African Americans, Middle Easterners, and Hispanics have immigrated to this country. However, when they moved here they didn't know about discrimination in this country. Is it really possible for African Americans and Hispanics to live the “American Dream” if they are discriminated against in the workplace and in many other places? Although America is doing much to prevent discrimination, it continues to take place and is more evident than ever. Discrimination is a major problem in the United States and many things go hand in hand. Discrimination exists in the workplace, in the community and among law enforcement. It's hard to pinpoint exactly why this is, except by simply looking at history. They were once used as slaves, completely at the mercy of their "owner" and not even considered human beings. History shows how African Americans have always been discriminated against. They didn't even have the rights of a human being until the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This document prohibits discrimination based on race, sex, religion and color. While this has been in place for some time now, and there have been improvements, there is not enough that can be done to address this problem. There are many negative effects of racial discrimination, which not only affect the discriminated person, but also their loved ones and friends. The new racial laws are at the center of the paper, many people get angry and prejudices get worse. This is also definitely not something we want. From my research into prejudice and discrimination, its causes and what can be done to solve the problem, I can see that many people don't even realize how big the problem is. I believe that this problem is actually bigger than people let on, and that if we don't find a way to eliminate people's individual feelings from their decisions, nothing can really be done about it. I think the best solution is to educate people about discrimination and teach them about other cultures and how they work. Many people discriminate simply because they are not sure where these minority groups come from and I believe educating them about this will help. Discrimination can be reduced in today's world; we just need to educate people about it.
