Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th president of the United States, with his vice president Richard Nixon. Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected to office from January 20, 1953 to January 20, 1961. Dwight D. Eisenhower was a Republican president; He was also a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II and served as Supreme Commander of Allied Forces Europe. Dwight D. Eisenhower was born in Texas on October 14, 1890; he grew up in Abilene, Kansas, being the third of 7 other children. His educational background consists of the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, where he graduated in 1915. As a child he was involved in an accident that claimed the life of his brother. losing an eye, he later said that this gave him the knowledge to be protective of those under him. Eisenhower's mother, Ida, was completely against the war, but Eisenhower began to take a liking to her, reading her collection of history books, he first parked his interest in military history. Growing up, his parents set aside special times to read the Bible every day during breakfast and dinner. As a freshman he enrolled at Abilene High School. He had an infection in his leg that extended to his groin and the doctor declared it life-threatening. The doctor was about to amputate his leg but he miraculously recovered. It is that after graduation he was assigned the role of 2nd infantry lieutenant. In the First World War he was responsible for the training center. In 1935 he went to the Philippines to serve in various positions before World War II. After the war he resigned and became president of Columbia University. Dwight D. Eisenhower served 2 terms.
