In this ever-evolving world of computers, where computer systems become more efficient, intelligent and complex, I find the in-depth study of computer concepts not only attractive but also indispensable. As I move forward into the future, I long for a program that helps me build a well-rounded foundation in the field of computer science. Within this field, I have developed a deep interest in the area of computational theory and science. More specifically, I find algorithms and the theory of computation to be the most interesting areas due to their application in solving many real-world problems. My undergraduate course in the field of electrical engineering gave me comprehensive exposure to all major fields of computer science and mathematics. In my junior year, I participated in the prestigious Robocon 2007 robotics competition with my peers. It was an eye-opening experience because I had the opportunity to produce a robot from scratch: from design to assembly to programming. I have been extensively involved in programming, using the C++ language for path planning and motion control. During this phase, I learned different algorithmic strategies such as line and sensor based algorithm, fuzzy logic etc. which could help the robot decide on faster navigation and make correct decisions to avoid getting stuck by sparking my interest in that area. Overall, it was a very educational and challenging experience as it gave me an insight into how concepts from different branches of engineering culminate in the creation of a robot and required a variety of activities including problem solving, the research and coordination of the team to achieve our goal. In my final year, I did a project called "Microcontroller Based Heart Rate Monitor". The project has strengthened my co...... middle of paper ......by working and learning under the guidance of Professor Shaddin Dughmi and contributing to his research in the field of algorithms, I am sure that I will be able to exploit my potential to the fullest. I also wish to be closely associated with Professor Ming-Deh Huang and his work in the areas of computational complexity and cryptography to achieve excellence in his chosen area. In conclusion, I want to say that I am fully aware of the hard work and perseverance involved in this program and I believe that my pursuit of knowledge, enterprising personality, attitude and motivation will help me meet my commitments and consistently work towards achieving my goals. Given the opportunity, I want to contribute my share to the academic environment of your department and look forward to being a part of your esteemed Computer Science department as a stepping stone towards achieving my goals.
