Topic > Essay on Suriname - 1274

Human trafficking is a three-step process in which victims are recruited, transported and exploited. It is considered the most serious of all organized crimes because victims of human trafficking are repeatedly victimized (Dammer, H., & Albanese J). Suriname is a destination and transit country for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and forced labor. Faced with the enormous problem the country faces, Suriname does not meet minimum standards for eliminating trafficking, but is making significant efforts to do so. This is inferred from the fact that there are more cases being prosecuted and an increasing number of child victims. However, the government did not issue any trafficking convictions. In order to eliminate or decrease the organized crime of human trafficking, it is necessary to conduct vigorous investigations and prosecute trafficking cases along with conviction of the offender (Suriname. (n.d.)). In doing so, victims should also get appropriate services based on the crime they suffered. As for the authorities, it is important to note that even though the victim may not want to testify against the perpetrator, it is still vital that law enforcement continues with the investigation and continues the investigation.
