Basic research on QatarBasic researchEnvironment: Soils: Since Qatar is a desert environment, most people think that it is not possible to grow plants there. This is not the case. There are 5 different soil types to consider throughout Qatar: ● Rawdha soils: These soils have a small amount of organic matter, low water holding properties and poor structural properties. Additionally, Rawdha soils give rise to surface crusts that interfere with the plant-air-water relationship and inhibit the emergence of seedlings. ● sabhka lands: are lands made of sand. Most of the sand in these terrains is wind-blown, making it structurally unstable and dangerous for travelers. ● Lithosols: The most common soil in the region. Relatively shallow, 10-30 cm deep and are a sandy calcareous loam, covered with rock debris, overlying a layer of rock fragments on a calcareous bedrock. ● Marine fill: This was used extensively in the creation of Doha. The sandy nature of makes it difficult to build on them as they are less structurally stable than other soils. This is important to consider during development. Simosa limestone is also present on the site. The limestone bedrock is light brown to light grayish pink and red. The limestone is moderately weak to strong. The strength may vary depending on the amount of rain. Wildlife: There are many different species living in Qatar. It seems like there aren't many due to the harsh environmental conditions, but there are actually quite a few species of wildlife that call Qatar home.
