Topic > Euthanasia: murder or mercy? - 1676

Our modern society has been repeatedly challenged on many topics that have been considered "moralistically impactful". Today it is accepted that a problem cannot be solved in modern society unless adequate evidence is offered to manipulate the strong beliefs of many individuals so as to reach an impasse between two opposing sides. Euthanasia appears to be a topic that has been widely debated for much of the twenty-first century (Larue). The definition of euthanasia also evokes mixed emotions: the act or practice of killing or allowing the death of irremediably ill or injured individuals in a relatively painless manner for the sake of mercy (Merriam-Webster). The struggle over whether or not euthanasia should be accepted as a common practice is primarily stimulated by multiple cultures that tend to consider how many of their views are challenged when determining their position on the issue (Larue). In any case, both sides cannot argue with the obvious reality that an individual who adopts the “opt out” option dies indefinitely. The burden and belief associated with a person's suicide are often too much for an individual to bear. Upon closer inspection, euthanasia has three main problems that make it more harmful than beneficial. Problems with euthanasia include violation of ethics, disagreement with the legal system, and moral and religious values that conflict with its practice (Larue). Many of the principles associated with euthanasia conflict with the ethical beliefs of our modern society. Three big questions come to mind when discussing the ethical issues of euthanasia. The first question is: “Is it ever right to end the life of a sick person who is experiencing… middle of paper… actual effects. In the end, there is only one question left for the individual to answer: Is it really worth the risk?
