Even if a student is not a member of a school sports team, he or she can still stay involved by attending games and matches. Students who do not participate in fine arts can participate in their events, but typically have fewer than ten events per year while athletics has dozens. Attending fine arts events is also expensive. Going to a play or musical can cost up to fifteen dollars for a student, not including the student discount. Sporting events are free most of the time, so students can participate in them without even thinking that it might cost them anything. Additionally, sporting events are good for focusing on sociability. When a student attends a basketball game, they are likely to make new friends or interact with those around them. However, when a student attends a choir concert, he sits quietly for an hour or two with those around him.
