An example is the goddess Hera. Hera was the goddess of marriage and childbirth and was known for protecting married women. She was both the sister and wife of Zeus and they had three children. In these ancient Greek times, she was expected to stay at home and take care of the children, even if her husband left to meet other women. She was jealous of every woman Zeus slept with and hated the offspring he had with these women. For example, he despised Hercules. When Hercules was a child he even sent two snakes to try to kill him. Hera also brought all sorts of unfortunate events into the lives of Zeus' lovers.
