Wars involve many battles. However, battles do not always lead to war. Marines serve courageously in our nations' wars. Their ability to win battles allows our nations to quickly address threats without making the situation more dangerous than it already is. Since the year 1775 the Marines have been the first branch of the military called up first. Their ability to execute the fastest, most effective and efficient military response to disputes anywhere in the world makes them one of the most respected branches of the military. This career is important to society because every great nation needs the battle of a warrior ready to defend it from imminent threats and assaults. These young men and brave women defend and fight for those who cannot do it alone. Fighting a war tests a soldier's skill, but defending one's home tests a soldier's heart.
