Topic > Successful Military Operations: Operation Desert Storm

Desert Storm, one of the most successful military operations in military history. They came in, got to work, and then went out, just like every other mission should be done. Despite its brutality, this operation could be decided as a victory for the United States. Desert Storm began with the Gulf War. The Gulf War was started by two Eastern countries who always seem to argue about all the little things in life that may or may not be true. It all started on July 17 in the year 1990, when Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein thought that the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait would flood the world's oil industry. The Rumaila oil field is an oil line that runs under the two countries. Saddam Hussein then accused Kuwait of stealing oil directly from the pipeline. Then, on August 22, Iraqi soldiers swept into Kuwait, taking and occupying all of Kuwait's government and property. Kuwait then raised a cry for help to the great almighty country of the United States of America. Sheikh Jaber Al Sabah, the current Emir of Kuwait, immediately met with then-US Secretary of Defense Richard Cheney to ask for some sort of assistance to help recover Kuwait and push Iraqi forces back into Iraq. The United States then made an agreement with Sabah and began making plans on how they would retake Kuwait. The United States gave specific orders to Saddam Hussein, leader of Iraq, to withdraw his troops by January 15 of the year 1991. If Hussein had not done so, the United States would have essentially helped Saddam and his army leave Kuwait. After no response from Saddam a group of UN forces decided to build in the neighboring country known as Saudi Arabia. On January 12, President Bush gave the green light for war. The Gulf War with...... middle of paper ......If the war the Iraqis were a little irritated due to the losses they suffered against the American soldiers, they decided that they would not abandon the war with us there . This war may have been one of the best military victories in military history, but it also started another war that would end much worse than this one. Leading to one of the most brutal Iraqi wars the United States has had, which later led to the war in Afghanistan. Desert Storm basically set off a domino effect where the average civilian could look at and say Desert Storm was bad or they could even say it was good. Not only did it cause another war, but it also caused another disease. This disease affects war veterans of the Gulf War and Desert Storm. Leaving aside the brutality of the Operation, it was a great success for the military so much so that it could be noted in the good books.
