Topic > The relationship between a parent and child in…

In the novel “The Kite Runner,” Khaled Hosseini illustrates how he develops characters through their words and actions. Being the main character, Amir faces the challenge of gaining his father's affection/approval because he is Baba's son. However, the way Amir gains his father's affection/approval is through immoral methods. Baba on the other hand, had difficulty showing his fatherly affection to Amir, which causes bitterness in their father/son relationship. In this novel we will explore how the relationship between a parent and a child manifests itself through their desire for affection and how it can influence the way one would be in the future. Baba is the most important person to Amir because he is Amir's role model. and world. The way Baba expresses his feelings as a parent is shown through his interactions and talks with Amir. In Baba's eyes, he finds it hard to believe that Amir is his son because "if I hadn't seen the doctor take him out... I would never believe he was my son" (23). Amir cannot defend himself and often finds himself in the position of receiving assistance from Hassan. Growing up, Baba never had to rely on anyone else when he was pushed around by neighborhood kids. He has always reported them, but with Amir he can't even defend himself without Hassan's help. Baba's disappointment with Amir's inability to defend himself furthers their already distant relationship. While creating his name, Baba had married a highly educated woman who was considered one of the most respected, beautiful and virtuous women in Kabul. For Baba, it was good to be married to a poet, "but to produce a son who would rather bury his face in poetry books than go hunting... well, that wasn't how [he] had imagined it" (19- 20). Baba does not approve of Amir reading…half of the paper…the matter of winning Baba's love because he was the legitimate son. The importance of having a healthy parent/child relationship is that the child grows up on the right path and does not regret anything. For Amir, this did not happen because Baba was almost never there for Amir. Hosseini shows the emotions developed by the two characters through their actions and words on how they express their father/son relationship. The relationship between a parent and a child is important because it helps develop the child's character and what he will be like in the future. The more care and affection is given, the better the child understands that he is loved. As for the parent/child relationship, Amir and Baba got off on the wrong foot, but things eventually improved as the story progressed. Therefore, improve the relationship between child and parents.
