Topic > Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Review

I have read quite a few books in my life. There were some that I loved, there were also some that I absolutely hated. I can honestly say that I've read more books that I hated than I write about, mostly because reading isn't my absolute favorite thing, or simply because I'm reading the wrong kind of books. There is, however, one book I read that I enjoyed immensely, so much so that I read it a second time because I enjoyed it so much. The name of this novel is Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Get an original essay Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the story of this pre-teen boy named Greg Heffley who is about to start middle school. Greg has an older brother named Roderick who constantly picks on him and also a little brother named Manny who is very spoiled, bratty and never gets into trouble. Greg often loves to play video games and is not interested in sports (I don't really like sports either) and for this reason Greg's father disapproves of his lifestyle. While at school, Greg meets a classmate named Rowley, who is very immature, and the two end up becoming friends and both join the school wrestling team, but Greg eventually leaves the team after losing to a boy nerd named Fregley. The Wimpy Kid novel is one of the few Diary of a Wimpy Kid novels that have been published, and this novel was also made into a movie released in 2010. The movie was ok but personally I prefer the book to the movie because, obviously, the book had more details. I really liked this novel, simply because it was so much fun. I'm generally not a comedy person when it comes to reading books, but this one in particular really stood out to me. The dialogue was very funny and on point and Greg's personality is a bit similar to mine. Like Greg is interested in playing video games, I'm interested in playing video games, and I'm not even a sports fan, but unlike Greg, I never get in trouble and most of the time, I keep to myself mine simply because I don't really like people and I don't know what some people do. Greg is a guy who wants to be a popular guy and basically does whatever it takes to be popular which ultimately leads to him getting in trouble but still Greg has a fun personality and that's also why I loved this one so much book. a lot. I also liked that this book has a lot of pictures (mostly drawings because it is written in diary form) and often the pictures can be funny and describe actions that happen in the story. Even though I'm not really someone who likes comedies, I happened to find this book quite funny, as I re-read it in high school, and I also saw the first two films in the series. This book is part of a 13 book series, but I only have this first one and plan to read some of the others later, but for now the first book in the series is a lot of fun and I would recommend it to anyone, especially tweens and above and if I could give this novel a rating on a scale of 1 to 10, this novel would definitely get a 10. Great plot, excellent dialogue, and excellent humor. Works Cited Kinney, J. (2007) . Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Amulet Books.Collins, S. (2010). Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Movie Diary.
