American families have undergone dramatic transformations in recent decades, and those changes affect the climate in our classrooms. The composition of family members is different. The major financial contributor must no longer be taken for granted. Social activities for children – athletic, musical, social, religious and their travel opportunities have expanded. Parental activities and social events have increased. Greater acceptance is given to single parents, same-sex parents and adoptive parents. Increasing income, parental education levels, computers, Internet access at home, advanced technologies at home, have changed the way we do things. Say no to plagiarism. Get an original essay As a result of all these changes, the expectations of teachers, the expectations of parents and the responsibility of those who must educate/socialize the child, change in focus. I do not intend to teach this topic as a subject, but rather include the main elements in how I manage my classroom, relate to my students and what expectations are reasonable and appropriate, and my responsibility in the scheme of things. Additionally, using the content and expanding the research to include data and statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau, I will develop lessons using this data and how it can be used to understand change. Another way I plan to use the information from this workshop is to make more informed decisions about how to set up my classroom. Should I put them in rows of desks, tables, or a combination of both? What types of activities are most effective for the lesson: whole group lessons or small groups? How much time can I reasonably expect them to spend on tasks and who should be responsible for completing them? What types of homework are most useful for their academic pursuits? Looking at our society, family and how it has evolved has an impact on our students and the way they learn, so we as educators must adapt to the changes, otherwise we risk becoming ineffective, doing the same things in the same way..
