Future generations have so much to look forward to. Two main things they gain from literature are “a new set of skills and habits of mind” (Burriesci 1). This allows future generations to chart their own lives and at the same time get closer to their dreams. That same dream keeps them in school and fuels the drive to accomplish whatever they set their minds to. However, studies have shown that “weak reading skills are strongly correlated with lower academic achievement” (Burriesci 1). Overall, our culture cannot allow this dramatic decline to continue.
