Topic > We should be able to decide if we want to attend the class...

Dear Administration, A certain issue has come up in the last semester that has made you all rise from your seats. Of all the issues you will have to worry about, one in particular has jumped to the top of the list and has become a major concern for you. We have noticed that in some cases the student body regularly attends classes. With this problem at the top of the board, it's something neither you nor the teachers can solve. This problem that is hitting you right in the face is all up to the student body, it should be their choice whether to go to class or not. Being a freshman who doesn't go to class, I won't know what's going on or if I do what I want to do, what assignments I missed, I will fail if I don't go, but that doesn't mean I should be required to go to class, it will hurt me in the long run because I'm the one paying for college. Towards the end of my first semester of sophomore year, I realized that not going to class ends up when I attend classes and I have no idea what's going on. There have been times when I walk into class where I haven't been in a while and as my teacher lectures us I have no idea what he's talking about or where he's trying to go with this. I once walked into my US history class, sat in my seat and was waiting for class to start. I started looking around and noticed that all the students were looking at the same piece of paper and it turned out to be a study guide. I had no idea there was a test that day, but it wasn't my fault or anyone else's and I had to pay the price. The times I go to class are actually very helpful and I'm happy I went to class that day. While I was in my Philosophy... halfway through the paper... with a very depressing problem, one went to the top of the chart and made them nervous. They say that the attendance policy at school is getting worse and worse, students are not going to class, teachers are complaining and students are failing. As a student I have come to realize this problem, I am actually part of it. There are days when I go to class, I know what's going on and what we're talking about, I get the homework my teacher handed me, and I'm doing well. Then there are days when I don't feel like going to class because maybe I'm lazy, maybe I have something more important, or I get sick but this doesn't make it the Administration's problem, this is my problem and I will deal with it the consequences later. It should be my choice whether to go to class or not, it shouldn't be the Administration's choice.
