An uphill battle"Never lower your head. Never give up, sit and suffer. Find another way. And don't pray when it rains if you don't pray when the sun shines" (Richard Nixon). Nixon believes that if you always look at the negative side of things, you will soon forget all the positives. Obesity is all around us and people aren't doing much about it, mostly because obese people themselves give up trying. Obesity rates are steadily increasing every year and the reasons are fast food, advertising and lack of exercise. From above, fast food is just one of the causes of the increase in obesity every year. First, big companies have had an impact on advertising and changed the way we eat. Between 1977 and 1995, "fast food vendors like McDonald's and Burger King reshaped the diets of American parents and children" (Ruskin 4). The increase in fast food consumption has led to the effect of obesity especially in America. Secondly, fast food is so large today; McDonald's is all you see anymore. Consumers “Eat food design for the health of corporate balance sheets rather than for the health of children's bodies” (Ruskin 5). If you are driving or just taking a walk there aren't many healthy food choices, we are surrounded by fast food. Lastly, everyone loves soda and that's exactly what these fast food companies sell. Ruskin states that “soft drink companies use every trick available to cook children with their high-sugar, high-caffeine products” (Ruskin 1). The city's growth is also influenced by soft drinks and how they are available everywhere you go. There is fast food trapped in this world which leads to obesity which is bad for everyone. As before, advertising, one of the main causes of obesity, must also be considered a negative effect. First... middle of paper... ming in active. “Less than 10% of American adults engage in regular, vigorous physical activity, with nearly 60% reporting a sedentary lifestyle” (Shinn 4). In a couple of years this obesity rate will increase because people don't exercise or go outdoors. Obesity is a problem because of the way we go about our daily lives and our inactivity overwhelms us. Due to fast food, advertising and lack of exercise, obesity has become a serious problem and fast food will never disappear, as you have seen to learn not to fall into their delicious traps. Advertising is everywhere around us, making us want to eat unhealthy foods even when we are young and which can cause obesity. If you don't live an active life and devour junk food your health declines, while obesity People need to think like individuals and not let other things, like food, get them down.
