He is saying that if we fear death or if we live our life in a certain way, we will accomplish nothing. If we wake up every day and are afraid that we won't get the job of our dreams, we won't even try to do what it takes to get that job. Socrates states: “Wherever a man has taken a position because he thinks it best, or has been sent thither by his commander, there I believe he should remain, steadfast in danger, without regard to death or anything else rather than dishonor.” Socrates is trying to show that if we examine what we think is the best option in life, then we should take that course of action, even in cases where we risk dying or getting hurt, it doesn't matter. We should live a life without fear of dying because if we didn't we wouldn't live our lives to the fullest. When we live our life to the fullest it means we will have no regrets about the things we do while we live. Socrates comes to accept this when he tells that truth in court instead of gaining the sympathy of the jurors. Socrates states: “I have no regrets in having defended myself as I did; I would much rather defend myself and die than live defending myself that other way.” Even if we are afraid of our future, we should not stop living ours
