The Marine Corps Struggles to Remain One of America's Elite Fighting Forces The United States Marine Corps is known as one of the most elite fighting groups in the world. Marines are highly regarded by most people in American society. However, the Marine Corps has had a difficult journey since its birth date on November 10, 1775. While the American people felt and still feel that the Marine Corps is vital in our armed forces. Although the Marine Corps was originally formed for amphibious warfare, it has proven powerful “in every climate and place.” Some, however, believe that the United States should integrate the Marine Corps into the United States Army, believing that both perform the same tasks and that having another branch simply means stretching the defense budget across all branches. This is one of the reasons why the Marine Corps has been disbanded in the past along with peacetime movements in which the US Navy was also disbanded. Despite the Marine Corps' struggle to remain one of America's elite fighting forces, the people have always rallied alongside them to keep them afloat. This is demonstrated in their motto that every Marine is a rifleman. The Marine Corps also excels in the air by demonstrating that it can operate anytime, anywhere. When the Marine Corps is under attack, it always goes back to its roots in amphibious warfare. The people want the Marines and will always stand by them and it is safe to say that the Marine Corps is here to stay and remain the few and the proud.
