This is not true at all, just because you went to the doctor doesn't mean you know how to perform brain surgery. Many parents who teach their children today only have a high school diploma. According to the Texas Homeschool Coalition Association, the state of Texas does not require a high school diploma to homeschool your children (THCA). Homeschooling your child can be stressful – you need to be able to know enough about the subject you are teaching to answer questions your student/child may ask. Another thing that could happen while parents are homeschooling, they could also be working. This can cause you to feel overwhelmed and even exhausted. For example, the parent/teacher may have an in-home daycare where the young adult/student may be helping and not focusing on their own studies, just as the parent/teacher may not be focusing on their child/student's curriculum. Rebecca Hubbard states that "Many parents burn out at some point because they don't have time for themselves" (Hubbard). This is very true: you need to be with your children continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You have to make sacrifices to homeschool your child. Another thing you will have to sacrifice is your money. Steven W. Lee, a graduate student in child psychology, says that if a two-parent family relies on an income for two people; however, because a parent must dedicate at least part of the day to raising their child, the family may experience a loss of income. (Lee). Another thing a person needs to consider is that children usually follow in their parents' footsteps, if the parent or parents don't finish high school or go to college, the child will believe that it's okay and they don't need to finish high school or go to college because their parents didn't, so why should they. Homeschooling your child comes with many sacrifices
