Children with ADHD to treat or not to treatNot all children are the same when it comes to the question of how they should behave. Some children who have difficulty in certain areas are considered highly hyperactive. Hyperactivity is defined as: “Extremely active or too active, affected by or showing hyperactivity; vastly more active than is normal or desirable” (“Hyperactive,” n.d.). Parents often struggle with the decision whether to test their child due to hyperactivity overload resulting from the inability to sit still for a short time and the inability to concentrate on certain tasks. A licensed professional can diagnose that particular child with a common mental disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). ADHD has become an epidemic. Children are diagnosed with the disease and treated with a number of different medications. The thought of giving children prescribed psychotropic drugs can be troubling according to several controversial articles. All the reviews seem to share the same argument that ADHD needs to remain relevant. The drug may not be suitable for all children, but the issue of child safety is important. What is ADHD? Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, also known as “ADHD,” is a mental disorder that appears to be a very common childhood brain disorder, and the disorder continues through adolescence and adulthood. Children with ADHD have trouble concentrating, so paying attention becomes unbearable. Making friends and getting along with adults is a difficult task, because ADHD leads to behavioral problems. ADHD incorporates a couple of group behaviors, inattention, and a combination of hyperactivity and impulsivity (Davis, 2009, para 1). Figure 1: I counted...... half of the document ...... seeking treatment and gaining knowledge about ADHD. Not all reviews I read were for professional medications, however, what works best for each child is different. My message is to provide readers with a clear understanding of why the use of mediation can be effective. Just as choosing not to take drugs can be an option. With proper treatment indicated for ADHD, as well as parents, they do their part by gaining knowledge through research. Children suffering from ADHD can be controlled and grow up to live productive and successful lives. All reviews and other sources seemed to agree that parents play an important role in deciding treatment and whether or not to give medications, so don't get behind the wheel blindfolded. While there is no cure for ADHD, a parent can do everything in their power with professional help to ensure their child lives a normal life.
