While I was there, every time I talked to someone I got very close to them. Being my colleagues, they asked me why I was getting so close to them after they tried to distance themselves from me and it didn't work. So I told them about my lesson and that I was doing an assignment on personal space. However, I have a coworker who just moved here from Oregon and didn't mind. She usually stands very close to you when she talks or when she is standing next to you. She does the same thing I was doing, when you walk away she comes closer to you. I took this opportunity to ask her why she is so close to everyone. She told me she was raised that way and it's a way to show she likes you. When she is close to people it is to show them that they are more than just an acquaintance to her. As I broke the rules of personal space, I felt a little uncomfortable myself. I've learned that this is a real rule in our society and that I'm not the only one who thinks about how I feel. In my house, the kitchen is my personal space and I don't like having anyone in there while I cook. I also don't like people standing too close to me when I'm talking to them. I will automatically take a few steps away if anyone other than my family is too close to me when conversing with me. So, breaking this rule was a little difficult for me and extremely fascinating at the same time
