Racism is defined as the belief that one race has something better or more superior than another race. Racism and racial discrimination have existed for 2 centuries. It all began in the Middle Ages. Often rulers would have prejudices or racial assumptions directed towards a peasant because of his appearance or wealth. From there slavery took over. Throughout most of the 19th century and throughout the 20th century, slavery reigned. If you were “colored,” a term used for African Americans, you were considered less than trash. African Americans faced 4 of the 7 most common types of racial discrimination. They faced prejudice, racial assumptions, harassment, and systemic racism. What is racial discrimination? Nowadays people don't even know this because they don't take the time to learn about one of the biggest threats to our society as a whole. There are 7 most common types of racial discrimination. They are prejudice, racial assumptions, racist jokes/slurs, discrimination, harassment, systematic or other times called institutional racism and micro-inequalities. Let me explain these seven to you a little more. Prejudice, this is the behavior of individuals who base their superiority on their racial or physical characteristics. Racial assumptions, these are the silent assumptions we have about other races. For example, you think that because he's black he's a hoodlum or he loves fried chicken. Or, because he is Chinese, he is very good at math or has cross-eyed eyes. Racial jokes/slurs; this is very self explanatory. This is the most common use of racism in the workplace. Coworkers will reinforce stereotypical comments and racial assumptions. Discrimination, this is the act of treating anyone of a different ethnicity, culture, class...... middle of paper ...... they are lazy and just slow down and try to attack my female employees” I was shocked but I couldn't say anything. That was probably the only time I ever had to deal with any kind of discrimination. I hope that the evidence and evidence I have shown you will point your opinion on my topic in my direction. Nowadays people don't even know that racial discrimination affects us because they don't take the time to learn about one of the biggest threats to our society as a whole. It is vitally important to start paying attention to our surroundings and it would be better if we could do something about it. You see it every day, black on black violence. We tear ourselves apart for what? Street creditability? Money? Popularity? All irrelevant things. We need more love in the world. Less love towards the negative aspects and shifts love towards the positive aspects.
