Topic > The Eclectic Model - 1470

For my presentation I chose the Eclectic teaching method used in Physical Education. Going into the project I had no idea what the model was or what it entailed. I quickly learned the importance of the eclectic model and how it is the most vital and widely used teaching method. The reason for this is because it is the combination of all teaching models and grouping them according to different age levels of students. Obviously, there are some games or activities that you wouldn't play with third graders because they aren't developed enough to handle them. On the other hand you may not do an activity with high schoolers because they are too developed for it and won't get any benefit from it. To better explain how the eclectic model would be used, I researched other teaching models and broke them down into 3 categories where they fit best: elementary school, middle school, and high school. Elementary physical education is usually the first time young children become involved professionally. they taught how to control their body and perform the basic skills they will need to be successful in physical activity throughout their lives. This is the most important part of a child's physical education because without these skills and abilities he will not be able to exercise properly throughout his life and may even discourage him from trying different activities. If this happens, our country will become even more obese and out of shape. The models that we decided best suited this age group of students were developmental education, the tactical games model, the movement model, interdisciplinary elementary education, and the inquiry model. We found that these in particular taught the goals that younger children need before they can move on to elementary school age. When a school district decides to use the eclectic model in their physical education curriculum they do so in the hope that students will apply what they learned in grades K-12 for the rest of their lives. As physical education teachers, it is our job to provide students with the information they need to live long, healthy lives. When taught correctly, the eclectic model does just that. Works Cited1.
