He lived sixty-nine years and reigned for almost forty-five years. in his time, the Elizabethan age” (Thomas 1). Elizabeth led England during its greatest period of influence as a nation, despite prejudice against her gender. Many people believe that her life was like a fairy tale: “Beloved by the kingdom; dressed by servants with jewels and gold, silk and velvet; pampered and appreciated by kings and married to princes,” but in reality her life did not come close to being a fairy tale. Many of her subjects have hated her from the moment she was born. She experienced prison, her sister threatened to kill her, and she was almost forced to marry men she hated. Some of his friends caused riots in his name. Her enemies tried to assassinate her. Her father had her mother beheaded and ignored her for most of her life. Although she had many suitors, she never loved any of them. She understood the common people and ultimately earned the loyalty of those who hated her. She might even be ruthless. The city gates and London Bridge contained the bodies of the people she executed during her reign. He encouraged the myth of the Virgin Queen. She never married because she knew that if she did her husband would take all the power. He was two years old when his father had his mother beheaded because she had not given him a son. Elizabeth was never heard to speak or even say her mother's name. Shortly thereafter, Parliament declared that Elizabeth was illegitimate to ascend the throne. She... in the center of the card... was swollen and had a large cyst, which is what caused her death. Mary died on 17 November 1558. Parliament turned to Elizabeth, "of whose lawful right and title in the succession of the Crown, thank God, we must not doubt" (Beesly 1). It was only three years later that she became queen. She was twenty-five years old when she became queen. Many people didn't think she was fit to rule. When he came to power, England was bankrupt. She was only the third queen to reign, and the others ended badly. Even those on his side were unsure of his rule. They advised her to get married, but she led the country alone for almost a century. He amazed even his enemies with his sentence.Works CitedBeesly, Edward “The Life of Queen Elizabeth”Stickland, Agnes “The Life of Queen Elizabeth”Thomas, Jane Behind the Mask: The Life of Queen Elizabeth I
