Topic > My visits to the Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan...

For my study, I visited two museums. First I went to the Guggenheim Museum which is located in Upper East Manhattan, on the corner of 89th Street and Fifth Avenue, then I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The reason why I decided to visit two museums is because the Guggenheim it does not exhibit the type of art that interested me, its main art genre being modern art. My focus for this project was to study Piero di Cosimo's Renaissance period work, the painting "A Hunting Scene". The main attraction for me in this museum was the architecture of the Guggenheim Museum building itself. The museum was designed with a new circular design which is very modern in artistic architecture. It was interesting to note that the design of the building was drawn by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1944. Frank Wright is renowned for his authentic taste in building design. Inside the building you cannot help but see how the Guggenheim is perhaps the most monumental work of modern art in architecture. It has a unique architecture that creates space and dynamism. A spiral ramp leads to the peak of the domed skylight. The space planning and overall interior design fascinated me. I think Wright's building opened people's minds to the exploration of artistic, bold, and intensely personal architectural designs. My next visit was to the Metropolitan Museum to study the subject of my project which is Piero di Cosimo's painting, "A Hunting Scene". This painting is part of the Renaissance movements. More specifically, the work belongs to the youthful period (1400-1475). The painting was originally executed using oil on tempera, but was later transferred to a masonite board using oil. The painting is a classic example of the work of early Renaissance artists. It is... in the center of the card... he applied this function very well to create a sense of drama and suspense, the light shines on the faces of the subjects therefore allowing the viewer to read the expression of the subjects. The same approach was applied by Cosimo. Both paintings show ordinary life events taking place, a hunting scene and a scene of men and women engaged in an argument. Another common feature is the appearance of the painting which appears to be in motion. It is important to note however, that although Cosimo and Caravaggio were influenced by the Renaissance painting style, they come from different eras of the Renaissance. Caravaggio is an artist of the late Renaissance era; therefore his work is very colorful compared to the color schemes used by Cosimo in A Hunting Scene. If placed side by side in an exhibition gallery, Caravaggio's works would attract attention first.
