Topic > Our Addiction to Technological Devices - 540

The world is progressing more and more every day by introducing new devices and technologies into our lives. However, we have become extremely dependent on it. Because people have become so attached to technology, more and more people are becoming antisocial, there has been an increase in bullying, we are experiencing more health problems and not to mention it is controlling our lives. The excessive use of technology is drastically changing our society in a negative way and we need to change this. People have so much fun at home that they can do almost anything in the palm of their hand. From cell phones, to video games, to social networks, it doesn't seem to make sense to leave the house. It's gotten to the point that even if they leave the house, they are constantly glued to their phone. People prefer to talk to each other via text messages and social networks rather than face-to-face interaction. This generation is so connected, but at the same time more alone. You can have so many friends from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram but never met one. People are so antisocial and isolated from the real world. They are more concerned about what happens in the world of the Internet and video games than what happens in reality. Things like TV, video games, computers, phones and tablets prevent us from socializing with people in person. If we turned off the TV and put down the phones every now and then and had real conversations with our friends and family, things would be so much better. Bullies have always been around, but with today's technology they have a whole new way of behaving, harassing and tormenting people... "Cyberbullying". Now cyberbullying is just like traditional bullying, except it happens through the Internet. For the most part these are virtual insults. Threatening and harassing someone with the intention of mentally harming them. Severe cyberbullying can put victims at increased risk for anxiety, depression and other stress-related disorders. In some cases, children have committed suicide. In the last year, 9 teen suicides have been linked to cyberbullying. Research by the i-SAFE foundation shows that “over half of adolescents and children are victims of online bullying and approximately the same number are involved in cyberbullying. More than 1 in 3 young people have experienced cyber threats online. Over 25% of adolescents and young adults have been repeatedly bullied through their cell phones or the Internet." With more and more children having access to computers and cell phones, cyberbullying is more likely to increase.
