IntroductionTo be competitive in business requires a high level of adaptability between business offerings, as well as an underlying agile IT infrastructure. Fast-paced business requirements test the capabilities of corresponding IT departments to deliver innovative solutions quickly and cost-effectively. Over the years, cloud computing has become an innovative solution that businesses can use to keep up with managing business needs and corresponding IT requirements. A specific area of cloud computing called Software as a Service (SaaS) is the concept in which third-party companies (such as SalesForce.com, Taleo, and NetSuite) provide powerful applications to meet business needs via the web (e.g. the cloud) . Software as a Service offers the simplicity needed to incorporate application software into the business: new features can literally be implemented as quickly as obtaining a data subscription via credit card payment. The popularity of cloud computing has accelerated rapidly to a world-class level over the years. Research firm IDC predicts that businesses will spend approximately $42 billion by 2010 (Pattabhiram, 2010). Furthermore, research has predicted that SaaS delivery of business applications tends to experience annual growth of 19.4%, the fastest growing sector in the software industry (Pattabhiram, 2010). It has become clear that productivity can be improved, time to market accelerated, and cost savings can be achieved by applying cloud-based techniques to address agile business challenges.
