A giant hole is so dark and more than a hundred feet deep. Just think that if you woke up in the middle of the night with the earth shaking, you would think it was an earthquake but you would fall hundreds of feet into a black hole. What makes this strange phenomenon happen is something that triggers it or is it something underground. Is it unstoppable or can we prevent it? Sinkhole is in the dictionary a cavity in the ground in limestone rock caused by water erosion and providing a place for surface water to disappear. Sinkholes are a slow natural process of erosion. They occur when limestone is within a few hundred feet of the ground surface. Sinkholes form when water absorbs soil and carbon dioxide and reacts with decaying vegetation to create acidic water. It moves in the spaces and cracks underground, gradually dissolving the limestone. As limestone dissolves, the pores and cracks carry more acidic water. Sinkholes form when the earth collapses into cavities. Drought and high groundwater can form sinkholes. What is the most common form of sinkholes across America, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Michigan and all those that were in a beach town, there was life that was lost from these sinkholes. Mexico has one that is among the top ten sinkholes in the world. Why do sinkholes continually form in Florida? Water is the main reason why it enters the cavities and dissolves the limestone gradually forming a sinkhole. How can sinkholes form in a cave? Carbonic acid dissolves in rainwater and eventually reacts with limestone rocks. melting the rock. Rainwater flows underground and then dissolves the sinkholes, creating a cavern. This is why there is a big hole in a cave this is why speleologists have to use ropes to descend...... middle of paper...... Water can leak into the aquifer of the underground source of drinking water , then you need to check the water. Some warning signs of a sinkhole may be a localized gradual subsidence of the ground doors and windows failing to close properly cracks in a foundation a circular pattern of cracks in the ground the area of sinking Vegetation stress due to a lowering of the water table. My conclusion is that this phenomenon cannot be stopped but we can look at the warning signs to be sure. I'm still amazed at how sinkholes form and how long it takes before they finally get to the last stage. Scientists are still trying to learn more about how this strange natural disaster happens around the world. I think they form every day, but it forms so gradually that it could take years just for it to turn into a sinkhole. Humanity will soon discover how these extraordinary sinkholes work and whether they may prove dangerous in the future.
