Women who care too much about their appearance cause problems for men according to Milton. We see that Eve is vain from her inception. “As I bent to look, right in front, a shape within the watery glow appeared bending to look at me, I looked back… What you see there, beautiful creature, is you.” (Book 4, lines 460-468) The very first thing Eve did after she was created was to check her appearance. Milton includes this scene because he believes that vanity is one of women's greatest flaws. According to Milton, Eve would have been more interested in knowledge and what Raphael had to say, instead of her appearance she might have had the ability to see through Satan's evil intentions. However, she was worried about the truth and worried about her appearance. So overall, in the Paradise Lost books, Milton blames Eve for the downfall of humanity due to the flaws she possessed. I believe he is warning men and women that if they retain vanity, ignorance and pride, they will always create problems for themselves and others. We should learn from Eve's mistakes and recognize our own fatal ones
