When the Treaty was made, Germany was not at the peace table at all. Germany believed that the Treaty of Versailles could bring peace to many of the countries that had fought in the war. Germany felt it had lost its dignity and pride. The Treaty helped Hitler come to power in Germany. In the early 1930s, Germany feared losing the war. Millions of people were at work because of the Great Depression, because of World War I. When everything in Germany was still fresh in the mind, many Germans felt humiliated after their defeat in the war fifteen years earlier. When the war ended, the German government was very weak and the German people showed no interest in their weak government. In these bad conditions in Germany Hitler had the chance to become a new leader for Germany and lead it on the right path. Hitler and his party, the NSGWP, known as the Nazi Party. Hitler felt that someone had stabbed Germany in the back when the war was over. Adolf Hitler was a powerful orator and knew how to attract a large audience of Germans. German civilians had an interest in Hitler and were ready for a change in Germany. Germany did not accept the terms of the Treaty because it took away their dignity and pride and took away part of their land. Germany was held responsible for... half of the paper... shocked to see how harsh the conditions were. Initially the Germans refused to sign the treaty. The German people bitterly resented the war guilt that weighed on them. The German people felt they had played a role in the war. There were many German protests on the streets of Germany. But the Germans had no choice but to accept it. Germans took to the streets of Berlin and began protesting the loss of the territories of Danzig and Posen after the Treaty of Versailles.
