A change for immigration“From the moment I decided to leave, I knew all the risks involved, including the risk of dying during the journey” (Renaud) . Brian, one of the young migrants interviewed, does not live in a society like that of the United States, but the differences between him, the other migrants and the rest of the US population are few. American legislation has created barriers to try to stop illegal immigration, but it has sparked more problems and created greater risk for many immigrants trying to reach the states. DACA under the Obama administration attempted to begin a solution to America's immigration process, but more needs to be done for people, especially young migrants currently in the United States. Through past legislation such as the Immigration Act of 1965, American Ideals, and DACA, young migrants should have an end goal and should have the option to stay in the United States to work. Since the Mexican Revolution, immigrants continue to come to the United States in desire for asylum away from their lives in Mexico. Factors of hope lead children to leave in an attempt to escape native gangs, poor economies and even worse living conditions. “Immigration policy should be generous; it should be right…. (w)with such a policy we can trust the world and our past, with clean hands and a clear conscience” (Kennedy 138). The Immigration Act of 1965 created a quasi-hierarchy for immigrants in the United States. The status of choosing who should enter a country is fair, but placing refugees, those whose lives are in danger, at the bottom of the list is not. Many of America's first immigrants came to the New World to settle in a... means of paper... residents and, in turn, also citizens, if they so choose and meet the requirements. Some work for economic reasons and plan to return home when necessary, so allowing them to be considered legal for a short period of time should not be a big deal. The history of immigration has forced the United States into a difficult situation on how to deal with immigration and change policies to establish a fair system. The use of legislation and human rights provides a solid basis for how to address the issue. Undocumented people exist, but they should not be immediately escorted out and seen as criminals because of their desire for a better life. The Immigration Act of 1965, corresponding to American Ideals and DACA, demonstrates that migrants should be allowed the opportunity to work in the United States if danger is a problem in their country.
