Effects of GMO foodsWhat do the destruction of organic foods, crops and humans have in common? That's right, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Everyone knows that genetically modified food is the “best thing” and is a cure for hunger, but how safe are the foods to consume? Genetically modified foods are taking a toll on planet Earth for many reasons and could end up being the end of the planet. Crops are what physically keep us going as a planet, so when science and agriculture became one, we knew the outcome was probably going to be a bad outcome, one that would destroy us all. Agriculture and science are two different topics that should not go together. According to the “Dangers of GMO Foods” article on Livestrong, “Once GMOs are planted, they can harm nearby crops” (Livestrong). The damage this could have on the planet is such that it will end up doing more harm than good. Planting GMO crops will affect crops and perhaps livestock in the vicinity of these genetically modified crops. I think farmers are really unhappy with the decision to plant these crops around their crops, which I bet took a lot of time and effort to grow them to their maximum potential. No matter how much more food an acre of GMO crops produces, farmers will still be agitated that the crops they took so long to process and grow will be damaged or disappear probably within a day. The planet can only take a little more science ruining it before it falls as a population. The numbers (in percentage terms) are between the eighties and nineties. According to the article “The GMO Controversy: What You Need to Know” in Whole Foods Magazine, “In the Midwest, where there are millions of acres of Genetic… middle of paper… organic food is not what it seems to be. According to the National Institute of Health, “some people have expressed concern that genes from one food are inserted into another food and may cause an allergic reaction. For example, if peanut genes were present in tomatoes, someone could develop a peanut allergy from eating a tomato” (NIH). It sounds really terrible, only because I know some people who are deathly allergic to peanut products, and it's terrible to think that someone with such a severe allergic reaction could end up dying from a peanut allergy. I know GMO foods are healthier and there is a greater variety of them, but this is one of the risk factors that comes with trusting a genetically modified food and could be potentially fatal. People who eat organic foods are guaranteed food that has been cared for and grown (at some point). Despite
