America has always been full of thinkers and doers, and the late 19th century was no exception. For me the most fascinating aspect of development during the last quarter of the 19th century is that it seemed incessant. It is not simply that the development occurred at an accelerated pace, but rather it was a development that was immediately applicable within industrial plants, administrative offices and private homes in order to increase efficiency. In technological terms, society was advancing at rates never seen before. I agree with the text when it states that “revolution is an overused term” (Bowles, 2011) during the late 19th century just as epic is today. In my opinion, for something to be revolutionary or epic, it has to change the way society as a whole works. Thus, the most revolutionary developments during the late 19th century would be “industrial forces set in motion by steam and electricity materially changed the structure of our civilization.” (Gompers, 1894) or the expanding railway...
