Most of the time dreaming can make people find themselves in strange places they have never been before. For example, this could be caused by walking in your sleep or simply moving around in your sleep. Author Joyce Carol Oates wrote a line stating, “The kitchen seemed like a place she had never seen before, a room she ran into, but that wasn't good enough wouldn't help her” (202). . That said, this is more of an indication that Connie was dreaming. As shown in the story "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?", Connie is unable to distinguish her own house and cannot tell where she is. At the end of the story the author, Joyce Carol Oates, states, "So much land that Connie had never seen before and hadn't recognized except to know she was going there" even though the reader knows she is away from home (210) . Connie is unable to recognize him, because she is dreaming; however, she is in her own way
