The media has changed a lot and this is extremely true when it comes to the portrayal of stars. Films from older generations are much more "standard" and "in line" with other forms of media, whereas today what is seen as "normal" is starting to become more and more non-existent. For example, Thompson and Carew (undated) found that “from the mid-1910s to the 1930s, some motion picture companies were founded with the sole intention of staging productions with “casts of all colors.” Within these productions, the roles were not stereotyped according to the normal standard where blacks were seen as poor and weak, while they were seen as a more powerful and influential person.
