Topic > Research Procedure / Methodology for Artists and Designers

This article titled "Research Procedure / Methodology for Artists and Designers" by Carole Gray and Julian Malins talks about research procedures for artists and designers. This article can be divided into four parts, namely introduction, characteristics of existing methodologies, postmodern methodology, and appropriate existing and new procedures/methodologies and tools. First of all, the authors first tell us the definition of method and methodology in the dictionary and the general context of the methodologies. The research procedure should be radical, rigorous, understandable, evident, alienable and careful; otherwise the search results would be fundamentally flawed and irrelevant. Then the authors provide us with an example of the ELIA (European League of Institutes of Arts) research network. By the way, although this example tells us that research is, by its essence, interdisciplinary, cooperative and international, it offers a good model for some aspects of European cooperation in postgraduate education. Subsequently, the authors stated that although scientific research methodologies have been mature for several centuries, the definition and union of artistic research procedures will not be completed easily and quickly. The long-term property of the research means that the progress of the methodology is a growing process: only after repeated and successful uses will a procedure be recognized and adopted as a standard technique. Furthermore, the lack of adequate procedures has forced Art and Design researchers to use those that have been established in the Sciences and Social Sciences. Art & Design researchers fall into two deceptions, which are forced to adapt or lend a standard methodology that can distort the research and must...... middle of paper......methodologies or not know how to invent them. Give some examples of ELIA and ERASMUS and other European networks have an important role in this work. List seven research procedural principles that have been applicable to Art and Design research programs. The first four could be called classical research methodologies and placed in the broader context of research. The last three are less repercussive than the scientific method and more integrative than the artistic method. Talking about the application of compact disk (CD), which is capable of storing text, moving images, still images and sounds. Highlight that the question and debate on the nature of research is one of the most challenging and pressing issues for art and design researchers. In order to plan an artist's method, a series of methodological paths are no less rigorous and honorable than those of the scientific method.
