A good manager must have the ability to distinguish an employee's personal behaviors and performance level. Most managers end up going off on a tangent when they fail to do a proper performance evaluation. They begin to evaluate the behaviors and characteristics of their employees, instead of focusing on their performance at work. Most managers find it difficult to perform a good appraisal due to this subtle difference which usually leads them to develop a bad relationship with their employees (Schraeder & Portis, 2007). The process takes a long time. In most organizations, managers are left alone to gather the information needed to carry out performance evaluations. They need to keep track of what each employee has done, their performance level, and other factors that influence their performance. There is a high level of anxiety for most managers as they must consider how to evaluate their employees consistently and fairly. Managers see performance evaluation as a burden to them.
