Over the years, television programs have aimed to inform, educate and entertain listeners. Most programs were broadcast mostly in one direction. However, this has changed as most television programs nowadays continually try to engage listeners to ask questions or express their opinions and comments regarding the program. The purpose of this essay is to investigate the importance of such interactive programs for listeners. This study will use two reality formats of British television programmes: 'As Seen On TV'. The Celebrity Expert: How Taste is Shaped by Lifestyle Media This was a masterpiece produced by both Helen Powell and Sylvie Prasad. The two have extensive experience working with the media and are both professionals in the same field. Helen has previously worked in the advertising industry and currently works at the University of East London as a senior lecturer and program leader in advertising. For her part, Sylvie currently lectures in media and cultural studies at the University of East London as well as being a leader in media practice. The two explicitly examined and documented the important role of interactivity in the success of reality shows (Powell & Prasad 2010, p. 115). According to them, lifestyle television has dominated television screens in the UK from 1980 to the present. In this period it has helped to reach a large number of populations and consequently fascinate them in various ways. Based on this it could be argued that Lifestyle Television has immense power to transform the lifestyles of viewers and citizens in general.
