In the poems “The Love Song by J. Alfred Prufrock”, written in 1910, published in 1915, and “Rhapsody on a Windy Night”, written in 1917, both written by the poet and literary critic TS Eliot, the symbolism and images of women depicted through mythological means, the places and landscapes that both protagonists pass through or intend to visit, and the nature used in both poems are very similar, but strikingly different . "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" is about a man with low self-esteem who worries about going to a party in the evening where he is sure that the women present will reject and ridicule him; “Rhapsody on a Windy Night” is about a man returning in the early hours of the morning to his whereabouts. In "Rhapsody...", the moon is described as a forgiving woman, one who does not hold a grudge and softens and watches over everything. She appears as a lonely woman, almost like the one whose lover left her holding and twisting a “paper rose that smells of dust and cologne” (Eliot 31). At the end of the “Love Song…”, women are represented as mermaids, girls of the sea. They put men under a spell, for lack of a better word: “We lingered in sea chambers / By sea girls garlanded with red and brown seaweed / Until human voices wake us and we drown.” The last line makes them sound like mermaids. In both poems women are represented in strong mythological terms. Mythology, legends, etc. they have always appealed to the senses. They are timeless and involve adventure, romance, magic, loyalty, betrayal, war and mystery, all qualities that appeal strongly to our senses, but are also full of hidden symbols and meanings (Melinda-Landa.... .. half of sheet ......
